It is about where there is space. FCPS is due for some rebalancing regardless of whether a western school is built. Holding off on major rebalancing effort until a new western high school is built makes sense.

So, now, I see. People want it to get Great Falls kids at Herndon. No matter that it is a terrible spot to relieve Chantilly and Centreville. The traffic would almost all be coming from one direction and it would be a nightmare for students, parents, and commuters.
So, SB will probably choose it.

Hutchison is basically at Centreville Road and the Toll Road. Not near 28.

Where do you think the students will be coming from? Look at a map. Centreville Road is parallel to 28. It's the only alternative artery to Centreville RD f coming from the West. Centreville and Chantilly are both south/west of 50. Those are the schools that need relief.

You are correct that there is no access to Hutchison from 28--which means Centreville Rd would get those cutting across from 28 via Frying Pan Rd. Nightmare traffic. Especially when the Metro opens and commuters will be going that way, as well.

Enrollments this year need to be treated as rolling. My kids ES is adding a kindergarten class, we just heard about it, because of the sudden enrollment of kids. I don't think that we have had more then 3 kindergarten classes in the five years he has been at the school. I would hope that high school enrollment will be less volatile because the kids can be vaccinated.

I defintely prefer the Carson site and do not want to cross the toll road. The acqusition cost is only $13.5 million and I wonder how they are going to use that.

You do realize that wherever it lands up in that area will pull the same student population.

Not necessairily. Besides, crossing the toll road will take more time.

No it was adjacent to Carson, but they sold the land to the King Abdullah Private school. They were also looking at some park land next to to Hutchison. That site may still be available.
