The lower hanging fruit seems to be to start with the type of problem like Sandy Hook, Columbine, Parkland - availability of crazy fast guns with too much ammo that belong on the battlefield not in a home. We should babystep in the right direction over time

Give a set amount monthly. We need voting rights for DC too. Support that cause.
We will get voting rights in DC once the State of Washington, Douglass Commonwealth comes into being. It has been too long, but statehood is right around the corner!

His mother, mourning her child right now- that could be me. That could be you. We can play pretend, oh I don't live in one of those apartment complexes, that's where all this stuff happens, I live in a "nice" neighborhood, I live on a cul-de-sac, I live in Bethesda, whatever. The median income in Newtown, where Sandy Hook happened: $127,602. Who are we kidding? The HHI y'all love so darn much can't insulate you from this; this can happen anywhere now.
I can't wait anymore, it's time. This was more than close enough to home for me. Tell me what to do. I will follow you, I will follow anyone with a plan.
I'm not going to debate guns. You can't tell me someone is going to throw a knife into a random child's home and kill them while they eat dinner. Guns are the problem. Enough is enough.

I live in an area that has had a ton of guns forever and shootings, much less shootings that result in death, are exceedingly rare.

Perhaps it is the PEOPLE getting the guns, and not the guns themselves? Maybe we need to lock up those who actually commit crimes instead of continually letting them out on the streets?
Nearly every killer arrested in cases like this have a rap sheet a mile long. But, it's the guns?
This. DC had incredibly stringent gun laws throughout the murder heyday of the Marion Barry/Sharon Pratt Kelly years. There is an incredibly informative book written by an LA Times reporter and published in 2015 called "Ghettoside" which examines the extremely high murder rates in low income AA neighborhoods. The thesis of the book is that low income AA communities are simultaneously over-policed while being under-served by the justice system. The book delves into the cultural attitudes and beliefs of the low-income AA residents of South Central LA---who had never had an experience of being well-served by the justice system---either in the deep south from whence they and their forebears had come from---or by the city in which they now lived. The author goes back and examines the attitudes towards black-on-black crime from the end of slavery through the present day, demonstrating that the historically white-dominated criminal justice system---from the police to the prosecutors to the judges---historically did very little to protect black communities, and in addition, the legal system was used for more than 100 years AFTER the end of slavery to disadvantage black communities. When there is no trust in the police to keep you safe as a witness, and when you know that witnesses are targets, then it is rational behavior NOT to cooperate with the official investigators. But that creates a lawless environment of "eye for an eye" Wild West type of justice, where the bullies with the least scruples thrive.
Our current council should focus more on bringing actual justice to communities affected by high-crime, instead of giving the wolves continued free passes to terrorize the sheep.
Why isn't VA having the same problem as DC if this is the case?

Our problem in DC is guns flowing in from Virginia.
Really we just need to repeal the 2nd amendment.

This is correct. If you move to Switzerland to avoid the gun nuts, you’re in for a rude awakening. They love guns, they just don’t use them to murder.
And the fact of the matter is, America has always been a more violent country than Europe. It’s not “gang violence” or any other code word for minorities people want to use. For whatever reason, America has always had a violence problem.
If Americans are intrinsically more violent, perhaps they should not be allowed to have so much access to guns??
