OP here - thanks all! We are getting estimates and will go from there.

I've built my own decks, remodeled two full bathrooms, laid tile flooring... I am a huge DIYer. I would hire this out to someone like grout dr. The best way to remove the old grout is with a rotary tool, but you risk chipping a few tiles if you are inexperienced with one - and then you have a whole new problem to fix (especially if you don't have left over matching tiles). Seriously, its just a slow process in a very cramped space. Spend a few hundred to have the pros who do this all the time fix it. I dislike hiring out most jobs, but there some I will always do based on prior experience... this includes drywall finishing FWIW (so much better to have the pros do it unless you are just doing a small space)

Fwiw I did call the local Grout Doctor and their quote was quite a bit higher than another company that was recommended by a neighbor. So consider a 2nd quote before you decide.

Please share. I have problems finding any type of contractor to re-grout. Most just want to retile because it is more profitable and less labor.

I just cleaned my shower pan and doors with a citric acid-based cleaner, the results are amazing. First time I have been able to remove soap scum easily.

Sorry old timer...things change. Homes used to have root cellars and sleeping porches and outhouses. No need for "master" anything anymore in most homes as no homes have a "master" in residence. Maybe yours still does?

I've done it. But, I'll hire someone to do it in the future. Our shower smaller and I don't like working in the confined space on my knees for that long. The pros can do it quicker.

I don't even understand what this person is trying to say.

NP. There are some people that think that master bedroom and master bath are sexist and are trying to eliminate the use of those terms. They want you to call it the owner's bedroom, bathroom, suite, etc. Or some other gender neutral term. I think this is taking gender neutral to an illogical extreme, but, they can try to change the terms; I just think they are fighting a battle that very few want to have.

I thought it was considered racist due to the word master being used to denote the white guy in charge of the plantation.

Np. We need to reclaim the word and not let the racists have it. Master just means the owner of the house.

Grouting is pretty easy. I am female and not super handy. I think if it like icing a cake. You mix up the grout and then push it in cracks. Then you wipe it away off the tile within 15/30 min- whatever the package says. The prep work is much harder- scraping old grout out.

Caulking is so easy. Just go slow and buy the right caulk for bathrooms (not caulk for baseboards)

Or try Bar Keepers Friend on the shower pan. Let it sit and then scrub it. You might have to do it a few times but I’ve seen it work miracles.

Try bleach on the shower pan

My elderly mother did it. Time consuming but easy.
