I mean my immune system thinks dog hair and saliva is a dangerous contaminate and leaves me wheeze, itchy, and with a bad headache around dogs. Tried all sorts of allergy keds and haven't found one that actually kicks the allergy without making me nonfunctionally sleepy.

It means we only want humans or maybe cats in our beds
And we don’t want your dog to bark at us, sniff us, or slobber us. Generally just leave us alone dogwise.
A neighbor of mine has a disgusting dog who I don’t trust and I refused to engage with her, apologetically saying I wasn’t really a dog person. She seemed offended of course but at least no more dog interaction.

We didn't have any pets in my house growing up and neither did any of my grandparents or aunts and uncles so I was not a dog person because I simply had no frame of reference for dealing with them. I didn't like them because I had zero experience with them so I only really considered the bad things.

See, this is why I don't like people who Re so absolutist about dogs. I loved my childhood dog. But I've also encountered badly trained and dangerous dogs. The worst of which was a dog bite from the neighbor's off leash dog when he tried attacking my own dog. I had to have stitches and it was incredibly painful.

Even minor stuff, like I once had an off leash black lab run up and jump on me while I was waiting for a.bus stop, depositing mud all over my clothes. And then just the obnoxious owner going "Oh, it's okay, he's friendly". No, it's not okay.

Dogs are fine, but most self professed dog lovers are the kind of people who don't train their dogs and they're at best obnoxious, at worst dangerous.

I’m not really a dog person. I like some dogs that are quiet and well behaved and belong to friends. But I dislike having a dog sniff my crotch, jump up on me, or be off leash around my kids. I really disliked when at the beach one day an off leash random dog ate all our lunch food when we were in the water. And when an off leash dog trampled our bag and scared my daughter. I know that I mostly dislike bad dog owners, but since they are everywhere it ends up disliking dogs.

The funny thing is I actually love all other animals. I’ve always been fascinated by wildlife, I actually majored in zoology and spent several years working with wildlife. But dogs are so UGH. I think because they’re always demanding attention, barking, and misbehaving, vs a squirrel or a bird that just goes on living it’s life.

And most of all I hate the commitment. Walks every day, can’t stay out for more than a few hours because they need to be let out, always barking at people outside which is annoying AF, my whole life seems to revolve around the dumb dogs.

The commitment to walks and needing to go out to relieve themselves I'll give you, but the bolded is an owner problem. I've trained my dog from 8 weeks to be well-behaved and recently certified as a therapy dog and she does none of that. It takes a lot of work though to get there that some people just are not down for. Also, some breeds are more predisposed to this shitty behavior but either way, still a people problem 90% of the time.

That’s not the dog’s fault. It is your sisters fault for both failing to train the dog and creating boundaries that allow him to feel safe. He’s trying to control

I like my dog. She is super sweet and quiet. My sister’s dog on the other hand drives me nuts. He is a tiny yappy thing that is constantly barking and always thinks he is in charge.
