I think age would be a big factor here. I’ve seen this happen at our club, they don’t have enough to fill one age group so the kids play up. Club is all about the moeny.

His small club wasn't able to field a full team for his age group so they are doing age bands and he will be playing two birth years up in the fall. He's a decent player but not big or tall by any stretch of the imagination. Is being promised an age group team and having to play two years up an excuse to get out of our "contract"?

I would ask for a refund, with deposit, as they were not able to field a team that your son tried out for. There are still plenty of clubs in the area that might need a one-off player, the registration for a league might be a barrier, but let the new club handle that issue.

If it was me, I would pull my son, immediately enroll in a local recreational soccer program just in case and then start google search for other travel soccer programs in the area.

Worst case scenario is your son misses the fall. Most clubs have to register their teams again for spring, that is when other clubs may be able to have you join the team.

Whatever you don't put him in a rec program. Hire a private trainer before you ruin him in a rec environment.

Putting a kid in a rec program for three or four months won't ruin him.

That FPYC team was terrible in their own age group. I feel bad for them now.

Playing up two years is too much unless the player is 15yo or older.

Sometimes you just have to go out and play the game. He might surprise you and out perform your expectations.

This is spot on +1

Because apparently the team needs my 2k and kid to make a roster
