So what? There are plenty of well connected hacks who end up total unsuccessful a-holes. Just look at trumps and his sorry adult children. You don’t have to face adversity to have a strong work ethic or ambition. They’re just an extreme example. There are plenty of rich and famous people’s kids who are completely anonymous because they don’t amount to much. Can’t think of any to name here, precisely because they’re not noteworthy. Actually, I interned at Schumer’s office in college and pretty much everyone I met there was well connected and wealthy. You wouldn’t know any of their names today. Naming trumps kids doesn’t mean the bar is low, it just means they’re an extreme exception on one of end of the spectrum, as is someone like Jen psaki.

This type of forum is the worst on DCUM. Women are picked apart at every turn + people pass on gossip. Dreadful.

Agree. She is doing a great job. Since the beginning, she changed the “tone” of her office in a good way: there is a renewed sense of respect and decency that was missing.

Sorry, but no. She is incredibly well connected, and especially with regards to the Obama White House, you just don't say negative things about the well-connected people. Because they might because WH Press Sec in the next administration. That doesn't reflect how people feel about her, it reflects that she has been successfully in her career at climbing the ladder. I have heard she's nice and easy to work with. Not glowing praise, not criticism. She's middle of the road, which probably serves her very well. But it doesn't actually say much about her as a person.

Middle of the road says plenty about a person! When you're looking for a candidate for high-profile positions like this, you often don't want the top candidates because their name will over shine the position. Also, the more notable a candidate is, the more possible enemies they may have or skeletons they may have that you'll have to deal with if/when they come to light. Likewise, no one wants a candidate from the bottom of the barrel unless you're trying to hire a fall guy or gal. You know the job is going to be a shi!t show, so you get a terrible candidate in there to take the brunt of it and then bring an ace in to play clean up a few months later. Middle of the road candidates are picked because they have the skills, the likability, they have just enough notoriety but no skeletons... and if something does go terribly wrong, you can always go with the "ah, they were just too green!" excuse while moving along to the next candidate.

I don't understand why Vogue and high fashion have struggled so much taking photos of political women that meet their own regular beauty and composition standards. This is poorly lit, the clothes are great but blend dully into the background colors, and it looks like it was taken in passing while someone was asking what to pick up at Potbelly for lunch.

Seriously, I do not get it.

I think she seems totally fine, and that that is good. It is bad when press secretaries outshine their administration and the last administration's amazing spectacular parade of notable loonies should be the first and final exception to that rule.

I don't tend to admire any politicians or wonks really as I think they have all made enormous compromises to their own beliefs to get to where they are. It is the only way! I think they are necessary but they do not really inspire me.
