Which schools, and which "top universities?" Just read an article that none of the usual suspects like NT, Glenbrooks, etc. send many kids to the Ivys. I looked at the most recent list of GBS seniors and it was a whole lot of Wisc and Iowa State.

Can you link to said article? In my experience, there are plenty of kids going to the Ivies from New Tier, the Glenbrooks, the Naperville schools, Barrington, and all throughout. UChicago and Northwestern are also hometown schools and plenty of kids opt for that route. And yes, hordes of kids make it out to the Big Ten schools. Less familiar with the private schools (and to be honest private schools are less of a thing there outside of Catholic schools, since the public schools tend to be so good).

There's definitely some snottiness. You have kids living in $15m homes and kids in $250k condos. You raise confident, well-adjusted kids and they'll find other good kids. The school system is big, so plenty of friends to make.

I find the intense competition to be a bigger concern about the New Trier.

The streets in East Glenview right along the Edens aren't terribly lovely. But as you get closer to Harms Woods, there are some nicer streets.
