my dd is 15 and she grew an inch last year so there is that. I kept growing in hs-started freshman year 5’3’ and ended hs at 5’6. 4’9’ seems unusually short though so I would see a
doc in case there is a medicine to take etc.

This may sound weird but I look at shoe sizes to see if my kids are going to have a birth spurt.
My DD got her period at 11 and at 13 she just went up a shoe size so I'm guessing she will grow again soon.

I got mine at 11, and did not grow after that. DD got hers at 10, is the same height as OP’s daughter, and it’s highly unlikely she’ll grow more than an inch.

OP, at what age did your daughter start her period?

At age 17 it is most likely too late, but get her to an endocrinologist stat, get a bone age & bloodwork.

DD got hers at 10 and is still growing at 13. We'll see where she lands...

Agree, unless she is genetically likely to be this height. A friend went around this age and when a scan revealed her growth plates were still open, received hormone injections and grew a few more inches. She was (and still is) shorter than her sisters.

Aww poor thing. So what. A woman’s height is not non issue, unlike a man’s.

But 4'9 for an adult female is an issue, too.

Signed a barely 5' woman

To OP, I think your DD has some medical issue. Your are not *that* short, though your DH is, but still, I would not think your DD's adult height would be 4'9.

My mom is about height, and my dad is about 5'8. But my parents also faced chronic food shortage when they were younger (grew up in a war torn country). I'm the shortest of my siblings.

I would take your DD to an endo.

Girls will grow two inches per year for two years after their first period. 1 more inch per year thereafter until they are 16, which is considered their full adult height.

Just want to add that my DD is 4'9 and has likely stopped growing. If your DD is 17, she is used to being a very short person. I've taken my DD to every possible specialist and there was nothing to be done- some people are just very short. I do my best to make her feel comfortable with her height and know that she's just as capable as other taller people.

It varies. You say picky eater and no calcium? You should have her evaluated for ARFID, which is a type of eating disorder.

ARFID or any type of malnourishment can result in stunted growth. Sometimes with nutritional/weight restoration, girls can get extra height long after you’d think it was too late.

Get going on it right now though.
