wearing them as athleisure is ok if you can pull it off. “dressing them up” with accessories is just weird.

Bike shorts are amazing. I wish I had bought some before. They’re so comfortable and they don’t ride up my thighs like regular shorts do! I need some new stuff to wear and I’m definitely getting some more of them.

I am a mom in my 30s who doesn't really care about fashion anymore (especially post-covid) and HELL YEAH I jumped on this trend. I am wearing camo print bike shorts right now, just with a black t shirt.

I flew today for the first time since COVID and was shocked by joe many women on the flight were in bike shorts. Most we’re over 30. I guess I’ve been living in a bubble but did not realize it was acceptable attire outside of the gym/home.

Kudos to you OP, they are awesome on the right body and I like how they can be styled to be more leisure and streetwear style than gym wear.

...It will take at least another 5 years for DCmom to approve them

OP here and wow I had to look those up -- no I don't live in Dumfries or Manassas. That's hilarious.

I live in DC proper, not disclosing beyond that. Diverse neighborhood (both racially and socioeconomically). I see mostly UMC people wearing these those. Again - fashionable women, the kind who can pull of a jumpsuit (another controversial item on DCUM). But I honestly think some of these ladies could rock this look even in a more conservative or homogenous neighborhood -- they just look good.


jumpsuits are MUCH more fashionable and flattering than bike shorts. The seem to look surprisingly good on a wide variety of figures and look naturally together. bike shorts as an outfit other than for the gym will always look bizarre and unflattering. The look is even more bizarre if you accessorize it.

OP again and entirely possible! I feel like maybe a couple years ago, celebs, with-it 20 somethings, and people in high fashion places (NYC, Tokyo, for sure) were wearing them. And now they've trickled down to moms in DC. It sounds about right for a trend, TBH. This city is not cutting edge but it's also not podunk. Trust me, I'm from podunk.
