Is money an issue? Is the fact that he is putting money into the Jeep keeping you from getting another car to replace or supplement the Subaru?
This. Does he think that the Jeep will ever be something other than a hobby?
My husband spends a ton of money on physics textbooks because he loves physics. It has nothing to do with his career, and I don't mind, because he's doing fine professionally. But if he were spending that kind of money *instead of* getting closer to retirement savings or a professional certification that he needed for work, I'd be mad.
Your husband's Jeep looks like transportation, but it isn't transportation, at least in practical terms. So if you need transportation, you need to make it clear that Hobby Jeep is fine, but your family also needs reliable transportation.
