Becuse the Jeep is designed for off-roading and it's useful when climbing hills in the wilderness.

Didn't chime in before, but will chime in now. Unless the 120k German car is extremely old, it very likely has hill hold as well. However, some vehicles require the driver to "activate" the feature by pressing the brake pedal a bit firmer at a stop. If you just brake to a stop normally, the pressure may not be enough to activate the feature.

It's common for owners of expensive German cars to not know all of the features that their cars come with. I'm guilty of the same.

You don't know about card op. The sensor is because the car is saying your niece shouldn't be in the front seat. The hill thing is because it'd a civic and not a car with torque.
