What kind of neighbor is this? How good friends are you? Does she have a nanny or spouse? Does she do favors for you too? Like will she return the favor?

For a friend, I would say yes, but get pcrs for me (vaccinated) my kid and other kids.

72 hours is not brief. This is a huge huge ask and favor. I wouldn’t want to watch those ages for an afternoon let alone a night. 72 hours is an eternity and those are extremely difficult ages.

The only way I would do this is if my very good friend’s mom died or something tragic and true emergency. Even then I would probably foot the bill and pay our own nanny to watch her kids for 72 hours.

So my answer would be hell no and it has nothing to do with covid.

Unequivocally, not just NO but HELL NO! A friend would never ask you to put your family in danger. Also, 72 hours in not a brief period.

I would do this for a very close friend but probably more for an emergency situation. Work travel does not qualify in my book.

I wouldn't, but that's not because of COVID. I have my hands full with my one almost-2-year-old. And I like kids from afar but NOT day in, day out. I never volunteer to babysit (though I would in a pinch, like for a couple hours, with ONE child or two older, potty-trained children).

Great trolling question OP. Because ZERO people ask their "neighbors" to watch their children for days at a time.

Lol.

You also know kids under 12 cannot get vaccinated.

Nice try.

Are you best friends with this neighbor, OP? If not it’s a huge ask, COVID-19 or not.

I wouldn’t watch a neighbor’s 4 yo and 2 yo for three days, barring an emergency, even pre-covid. A work conference isn’t an emergency.

Yes, I would do it. But…I’ve also been the recipient of multi-day emergency childcare.

If you're close enough friends that she's asking you this, then i don't think covid matters. But I'm not close enough with any of my neighbors that they would consider asking us instead of other family or hiring someone. So I think this is a weird situation. But not because of covid.

I wouldn’t take someone’s preschool aged kids for 3 days even if they were somehow engineered to be immune to every disease on earth. Just no.

Maybe my best friend for a dire last minute emergency, like her spouse died overseas and she needed to retrieve the body and there were no living grandparents to step in. Even then, I’d probably offer to pay for flights for the kids before offering to take them for three days.

^^ to be clear I need childcare myself - I am not in the market to provide it.

OP, do you have anyone in your home who is at risk or who is unvaccinated?

As a totally separate question, if there were no such thing as covid, is this something you would do or is it something you wouldn’t do?
