You have it completely backwards. Leagues like ECNL and gal only exist because a customer base with sufficient income wants the travel leagues and is willing to pay for it. If there weren't enough demand for them the leagues would never exist.

There are 9 ECNL Clubs within 2 hours. The only reason they are not aligned in a conference is because our fascination with HS soccer. That's it.

I don't think anyone is disputing that is the case. The league is simply responding to the desires of it's customers. GAL doesn't do this, you might want to check it out.
