OMG this was me above and I think I've seen the light! (I admit I did initially suspect it was one of those "lather, rinse, repeat" bits of propaganda from Big Mattress lmao.)
I have been waking up every morning for the past 1-2 years sore as heck in my hips and back, subsiding as the day progressed. You'd think that would have been a sign!? It's right here on this list:
https://www.cnet.com/health/sleep/how-long-does-a-mattress-last/
But because of COVID, I haven't seen doctors much until recently-- basically the pain developed during COVID times. I only recently mentioned it to a rheumatologist (I was there because I had other symptoms of possible RA, which I do not seem to have). She didn't mention the mattress possibility at all, just told me I was over 40 and might try Pilates.

I am totally out of shape so I, too, blamed it on that.
But I had been looking up all kind of info on "back pain at night"-- Dr. Google is always good for a scare-- yet it wasn't truly at night, it was upon waking.
Only when I read this thread did it vaguely occur to me that I remembered waking up without back pain when visiting my parents recently (first time in 1.5 years not in my own bed)... I still am not sure if that was true every night I was there, but maybe?
Anyway, I never suspected, partly because my mattress still looks awesome and it feels good-- at least when you get into it. It's not lumpy or worn or squeaky or any of the other "signs" in the article above. And I remember my grandmother keeping her mattresses for 20-30 years, and I never remember my parents replacing a mattress when I was growing up unless they got a different sized bed, or we moved to a larger house and they put their old bed (and mattress) in a new bedroom and got a new one for themselves... Not just "oh, time to replace our mattress!"
But, uh.... We got our mattress for our 5th wedding anniversary, and...
We just celebrated our 23rd.
