Yeah, this question is dumb. My current employer asked for 3 ex-managers, I told them dude I am loyal to my job so here is 1, and the manager before that retired 15 years ago and the company no longer exists.

1 year is plenty, just tell them the company shifted its outlook on how the team should be and their priorities are no longer a good match for your skill.

Bumping this to ask about job applications that ask for work history, name of supervisor, and “can we contact.” I’m happy to list my work history, and fine to have it verified (ie contact) but I’m not inclined to give permission to talk w supervisors going back 10 years. Reasonable alternatives? Can I give HR as the contact?
