Yeah, this question is dumb. My current employer asked for 3 ex-managers, I told them dude I am loyal to my job so here is 1, and the manager before that retired 15 years ago and the company no longer exists.

1 year is plenty, just tell them the company shifted its outlook on how the team should be and their priorities are no longer a good match for your skill.

I work in tech and I left my last job not in very good terms. I left out that job on the resume and I got five jobs offers.
