We did both travel baseball and club soccer until u11. It was becoming an increasing problem over the last years and by U11 we knew it wasn't going to work. Both coaches wanted to accommodate (one better than the other) and not lose my son to the other sport, but it was always a problem with schedules and upsetting the coaches. Baseball is just so time consuming. He ended up staying with soccer and plays on a lower level baseball team for fun, but that probably won't last too long either.

Not baseball but AAU spring basketball... impossible due to overlapping "mandatory" week night practices and weekend basketball tournaments every few weeks, across DMV area on Sat and Sun. DS picked basketball over travel soccer. Fortunately DS's REC coach allows him to skip most practices and just show up to play when he doesn't have a basketball tournament.

When DS plays Rec soccer (aggressive and dominant), parents from opposing team occasionally ask us after the game if DS plays travel and why not.

We tried this and were unsuccessful - although our baseball coaches were flexible it was too hard to manage with travel soccer too. Mainly because our baseball games were 30mins - 1 hour away, we had to get there 1 hour early for warmups, and then the games were doubleheaders so it was two 2 hour games and then then travel back home. We really wanted it to work but ultimately our son had to choose one sport to do more seriously. I so wish that travel baseball didn’t entail doubleheaders!!

We made our sons choose. Only one travel sport.

My kids both chose soccer and did Rec basketball. They managed to have some very good kids who also were travel soccer players that couldn't fit in travel basketball.

For us the decision was easier because our son is a late grower/constitutional delay so even though he's a good basketball player by late middle school height became more of an issue than in soccer.

Hard to have time for anything else if you are committed to travel baseball. Games and practices are very time consuming, more so than soccer

Baseball with travel soccer is tough to balance even with baseball isn't travel. Kids have to show up an hour before the baseball game and the games themselves can go almost 3 hours. Then factor in two practices a week of 90-120 minutes apiece just for rec baseball plus mid-week games that conflict with soccer. And that's just our experience with rec baseball for kids the same age as OP's. Fortunately baseball games weren't on Sundays while soccer games were.

If your kids didn't already try rec baseball plus travel soccer at the same time then travel baseball plus travel soccer could crush your soul from a logistics standpoint. I can't imagine what travel baseball time commitments are like but assume they are worse than rec, which is already terrible.

Club soccer can be balanced with other sports but baseball is hard to balance because of the length of games, especially if your child plays on a league with doubleheaders on Sundays.

If you are athletic enough for travel putting your kid on rec can be disasterous/unfair for the other team.

oh pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease. GMAFB. Lots of rec kids could play travel. Many travel kids are indistinguishable from rec kids. Unless their name is Bronny, it really doesn't matter. Leagues have drafts to balance out the rec teams.

Well I put my son on rec one year and it was a huge problem. First play he hit he knock the kid into next week. Legal hit. It’s dangerous and not good for the other team. Kids in rec are learning or not tgat athletic.

Sure are there athletic kids, yes. But a kid that is hood enough for travel, not a good idea.

Omg I almost wish we had flair like Reddit or usernames here because I’d 100% want mine to be Travel Team Tarlo.

Just be ready for coaches/parents to give you the side eye when you are late.

We told each coach Fall Soccer takes precedence, Spring lax did. We stuck to the rule and it was a bit bumpy. Summer was complicated.

I said in many occasions… he’s 10, or 11, or 12.

I mean really they are little children, lighten up.

My son was very good so no fear of getting cut.

We committed to one Sophomore year of HS but continued to play HS for both.

You should understand that you're committing to a team regardless of the age. The other teammates are counting on your player to help them improve as a Team. When you miss practice or a game it hurts everyone. Your using a roster spot that you committed to. A team sport is about the team not just whats good for your kid. Look at it if the shoe were on the other foot.

The shoe was often in the other foot. Other kids wrestled, basketball, played football and hockey.

They also had family vacations, some traditionally did all summer summer camps, has bar/bat mizvahs, synagogue/mass, etc.

You are committed, not owned. Coaches need to understand they are not #1 all the time. You can’t expect 100% from somebody 12 months a year.

Sports are about learning, sometimes the star doesn’t show up and you need to step up, maybe it’s a good opportunity for growth. Who in the world has not had to kiss work gor family/other obligations… kids learn they can’t and shouldn’t put work/sports above everything else.

+1. Kids who are talented athletes are usually good at multiple sports and enjoy playing multiple sports. Our current system of making kids specialize in one sport at a young age is ridiculous and harmful to their bodies. I assume that you still have young kids. Those of us with older kids know that it is not necessary to sell your kid's every minute to a year round team in the name of being a "teamplayer".
