My elderly relatives generally text between 11pm-2am - and we're in the same time zone. They are 85+, and know how to use DND. Take charge of your phone if you don't want to be bothered.

I do use DND, but if you feel the need to send me non-emergency texts very early or late as a habit, I’ll drop you. It shows that you have a very inflated ego, to think that someone needs or wants to hear from you before sunrise.
DP, I think it's you who has the inflated ego if you expect everyone to know and contact you only with specific hours. Put your phone on silent, and it's no problem. People have different schedules and you/they respond when they can.
My phone is on silent. If you’re the type who thinks I need to know that I need to see a photo of Janie’s ballet recital at 7 a.m. on a Sunday, I’m fine if we fall out of touch.
No, at 5:30am I'm responding to the text you sent me at 9pm when I was in bed. If your phone is on silent, what's the big deal?
If you have a phone, know how to use it and silence it when you don't want to be bothered. It isn't the responsibility of anyone else to know your own personal schedule.

I also know people who need to keep their phone on 24/7 (physicians, LEO, etc) and don’t want to disturb them.
I personally use DND because I have friends who text me late at night. I wish I didn’t have to, in case there’s an emergency.
I think it’s very selfish to feel entitled to text 24/7 and put the burden on the recipient to use DND. Not everyone can or wants to.
