I've found those watertight pouches for phones and money to be quite useful. Though I'm not trusting enough of their waterproofness to submerge the phone, it's good for taking picture or video while splashing around with your kids. Then you can also have your valuables with you while down at the water and you don't have to worry about someone watching your stuff back at your blanket/umbrella set up.
