Where I live (not DC) restaurants are unable to hire people due to low wages, so they’ve taken to posting on social media and posting signs *inside the restaurant itself* that government needs to abolish social services so people will be forced to work at $2.13 an hour.
Not surprisingly, it’s hurt their business. Which is probably good, since they don’t have any waitstaff anyway.
Exactly. The problem isnt that their business cant stay afloat without paying people pennies its that people are relying on social services, which is funny considering a lot of servers I used to know were eligible for social services like Medicaid, WIC/SNAP, daycare vouchers, etc. Trust me taxpayers end up paying for the low wage jobs anyways.

They want to defund the police..... many jurisdictions are not doing this. Some are. But the actions they have taken have had the result they wanted.
They demonized the police. Called them racists. Attacked them relentless over the summer of 2020 - and attacks continue today. Police are being targeted and assassinated.
Now, police offices across the nation cannot get new recruits. There are record number of retirements and resignations from police departments. Police officers are afraid to do their job for fear they will be accused of a crime.
This was their goal. And, crime is skyrocketing. No surprises there.

Even better, we need universal healthcare. Let’s promote entrepreneurship and risk taking without the fear of getting sick and losing everything.
I’m interested to see how this Great Resignation will pan out. I hope that workers become more powerful and less beholden to the Almighty Employer.

What is so magical about Detroit?

We pay regardless of whether they work or not apparently.

If you pay to much for law enforcement, it attracts the wrong people. At least, that's the working theory on DCUM.
I've never seen that on DCUM (or anywhere), but it's obvious that if you're job isnt' attractive, pay more or offer better benefits.
There are period postings about localities paying police officers too much. I have no other way to interpret that statement. DCUM was college educated officers at minimum wage rates. Minimum wage only attracts a certain desperate group. Do you really want to make desperate people officers?
