Seriously, this. OP, try to manage your expectations. Go simple and small. Try to appreciate the day and your young family. It's all going to be ok.

I also dislike these holidays.... And do we don't do anything for them. I also don't think mother's of young children should have to celebrate their spouse as a parent. I think it's kind of embarrassing for dad's of young children to ask their wives to make a special effort to celebrate them for a day - it rubs me the wrong way, like bosses day does.... I think it's enough to just tell little kids to give their dad a hug and say happy father's day.

Ha, when this thread was posted I thought “wow who would get in fights on mothers/fathers day?” but it’s taking all of my self control not to directly ask DH why he has basically been sulking around and avoiding me and our 1st grader all day (which would lead to an argument) and refusing to join in even when she asks him to play with her. If he had said he wanted a ‘day off’ for fathers’ day I would have told him to check into a hotel for the day (too hot for me to just take our kid on an outing all day). I’ll take one for the team but it’s very annoying, and I did not have high expectations.

You should talk to your DH and ask him if he shares your dream and will facilitate it. No reason kids can give you a card at dinner Thursday or Friday night before, and mommy gets a spa day for Mother’s Day, while daddy gets to go fishing for the weekend for Father’s Day.
