Don't call the doctor for this, but a parent not talking to her child after her first period? It's something to be celebrated. I can't imagine NOT sharing the moment with my child.

Depends on the kid - everyone is different. I was kind of excited about getting my period - my friends and I talked about it all the time. DD enjoyed the day off of school, the trip to the ice cream parlor and a bit of special attention. She was very open about it - maybe because she was only 11 and wanted my guidance, and maybe because I tend to be open and matter-of-fact about such things. But I know some girls are horrified to talk to their mothers about their period and are more private. There’s no right or wrong - you follow the cues of your child.

I got mine at 11. My mother got hers at 14. I remember her making several comments about how “early” mine was and she didn’t understand why I was getting it already. It made me feel super self conscious and like something was wrong with me. Don’t do that

I had the same experience with my mom. She was 14.5 and I was barely 12. She implied that there was something wrong with me (knowing her, she probably thought I was fat) and always liked to mention that I got mine before my older sister (who got hers at 16). I'm 48 and mom still sometimes brings this up (she thinks I should be well into menopause because I got my period "so early")
