b/g twins in the same elementary school. Split them up for middle school and it was THE BEST decision we made for them. They are very different kids academically and socially. Being in the same school was challenging. While the logistics of two schools has sometimes been hard, it was absolutely the right thing for them. They are now in high school and both love their respective schools and have a much healthier relationship with significantly less fighting.

I was pretty sad making the decision because I liked the idea of keeping them together both for them and for convenience. So glad we decided to let them chose their own path.

DH is a twin and went to a different HS than his brother starting sophomore year. A new school opened and they had the choice to stay or go - DH stayed and BIL went to new school (they don't remember any discussion about it, sounds like they both made up their own mind). Their friend groups were close and still close to this day.

Twins should be in different classes from the get-go, in most cases. Whether the issues are dependence, competition or being judged by the twin, it's just better for them to be in different classes.

The only reasons (IMO) to put them in different schools would be the same considerations other parents would make for siblings who aren't multiples. Specialized schools, reflections (esp. behavior), comparison to sibling, SN, etc.

So, forget about what we think. Why do you think your twins should be in different schools? What obstacles and benefits do you think may occur?
