Ohhhh. I've heard those called frameless doors, not barn doors. I was picturing something mounted to the wall outside the shower.

+1 I grew up with barn doors (on actual barns) and sliding shower doors. They really aren't different.

OP here, thanks for the feedback. My biggest concern was cleanliness so I appreciate the tip from 08:59.

It is fine. We put this in kids' bathroom in 2015, so I don't think they're on their way in. Maybe on their way out, or just here to stay, neither in nor out. Works well, doesn't take any more effort to clean than anything else (PP's prior owner must not have been much of a cleaner). In fact, boys's bathroom looks very similar to the pic posted.

We have the style in the pic above, in our kids' bathroom. Remodeled in 2015. There is no grime or anything in any nook or cranny. I suspect that someone just didn't clean well. I'd suggest trying a hydrogen peroxide/baking soda combo, it lifts a lot of junk out of nooks and crannies. We did this behind a faucet in a bathroom we bought at the suggestion of someone at Home Depot rather than buying some caustic chemical. Worked like a charm.
