We pay our 13 yo neighbor $10 an hour, 2 hours a day , 2-3 days a week (depending on her schoolwork load.). She’s pretty good although tweens are glued to their phones. The mom shouldn’t expect to get much work done though because you have to troubleshoot pretty frequently (ie you don’t want to be scheduled in any work meetings or client calls.). I’ve found It’s a good chance to clean, cook, do household stuff. That’s really what a mother’s helper is for not a partial sub for daycare.

So parent will be home, but dc will be in charge of keeping the 5yo entertained, and make a simple lunch. *I* will not be there. I’m the parent if the 13yo.

And you're okay with your kid taking in maybe $15 for 2 hours of work? Not to mention the fact that you will be also de-facto supervising this babysitting because a 13-year-old can't be trusted alone with a 5-year-old and/or if any crying happens - its on you?

From the way the OP is written, it’s tough to believe she’s the mom of the babysitter.

No, it's not. She's been perfectly clear. Maybe some posters have had too much wine tonight leading to reading comprehension issues. Good grief.

Alot of reading comprehension issues tonight.
$7-$8 an hour is reasonable.

This, maybe 7-8 as this is a 13 year old.

That’s not a Mother’s Helper, OP, that’s a babysitter. Mother’s Helpers are there when you’re home.

$15 an hour. The new minimum wage. Remember your babysitter’s mother is your neighbor and available to help her child and yours. You don’t want to go cheap.

That’s too high. That’s what I pay a high school sitter I leave alone with my two kids.

+1 way too high.

OP is literally dropping off her kid at the other kid's house. That's a babysitter. Not a mother's helper.

Op here. I will not be. The parent of the child dd will be hanging out with will be working from home. They are our neighbors so within walking distance from home.

That’s horrible! She is still working (no 13 yr old wants to play with a five year old and keep him/her occupied).

I’d pay between $10 and $15 OP.

That’s laughable. For $10 you can hire a teen sitter for one kid. For $15 you can hire a sitter for 3 kids. $5 — $7 an hour is about right.

In the cornfields of Iowa maybe.

I’m not going to save money on the back of a 13 year old. It’s not a cushy job - I’d pay ay her between $10 and $15 an hour.
