I presume that other DCPS and charters in the area have seen similar higher attrition as people move to private or the suburbs or away from the area.
The people who were leaving pretty squarely suggest that it is due to the lack of a bus option for those of us who are too far from Kingsbury to make the commute. The attitude from the administration has not been reassuring. I don’t see how a bus with windows open is less safe than a classroom, but I have stopped caring.
I have a ton of sympathy for the poster saying they don’t know where to go unless they win the lottery again. I feel your pain! I can assure you that the administration has zero interest in helping, and the pto even less. Instead of fundraising for a bus, they literally put money towards a garden path.
I would think that most people would at least pretend to do something about us Brooklanders and beyond, especially since many of us were told the campus would never move from Brookland! No the school is using the pandemic to cease operation of the bus, and isn’t interested at all in retaining us. Many have left and will continue to leave as they find places elsewhere.
Sending love to you. Hopefully there will be less traffic since many now work from home. Otherwise I am totally out of ideas.

They aren't planning to leave...yet. That cross-town commute--during rush hour in both directions--will be brutal.

If a lot of families leave, it’s going to be a financial hit to LAMB. Add that onto an expensive new campus that still needs renovation.

So so so many have left and many more won’t come back after this virtual year. School has made it clear they don’t care we are leaving.
Where are they all going?

We actually did lottery into MV but turned it down ... perhaps will regret it someday. Still feels too new.
Would you ebike downtown after? In bad weather? Trying to think that through because we’ve never bike commuted across town without a backup plan.
Yes exactly. Probably not in poor weather. In that case maybe park and take the 16th street bus?
Honestly doubt either of us will have to work in person every day, so hoping to work things out between carpools, shuttle, ebike, and just driving. If parents can split the duty it’s much easier.
That sounds exhausting. Imagine the time and energy you would save by attending a school near your home. Quality of life is important.
It’s not actually that far.
Do you take your kids across town to any activities? Is it exhausting? We do it for the education we want our kids to have. That’s also important.
DP. Yeah but twice a day, 5 days a week for 5-8 years is an entirely different commitment. There’s a cost benefit that goes into whether that commute is worth the incremental increase of that particular school versus a neighborhood option (of which there are many in Brookland).
Increase of LAMB over our IB or local DCPS? Yes, worth it.
Other charters? We’d need to lottery in which so far we haven’t except once. We did our homework and made this decision.
Having both Montessori and Spanish is truly rare and for us it’s worth it.
