I never lost mine, at least noticeably. Water broke at 40 weeks 4 days and had baby about 12 hours later. When I first got to hospital (had lots of bleeding so had to go before labor really started) I was at 0, 0. But labor kicked in on its own naturally about 3 hours later and it all progressed very smoothly from there on in. There is very little that is reliably predictive about any of the pre-labor signs. Sometimes they mean something, just as often they don't.

It doesn't have to have blood to show progress. And it only regenerates if your body isn't prepared for labor. I lost mine and had my first daughter two days later. With my 2nd, I lost it a few days ago and based on how my cervix feels doctor says I'll probably bust any day.

Nope. Mine fell out and days later I hadn't "progressed" at all. My pregnancy books say some women lose and regenerate several times. As for the PP whose doctor said come to the hospital as soon as you lose your mucus plug, I agree that you should be prepared for a major dose of Pitocin (unless you are lucky and really are one of those fast first time moms). I called my doctor and described losing my mucus plug to her and she said, "You are way too early to come to the hospital." About 2 days later, I went to the hospital (a FTM thing-- I thought I was being really patient) and it was STILL way too early.

But I was at 41 weeks and oh my goodness do I know that feeling of wanting labor to start so bad everything HAS to be a sign...

Yes it is! Definitely was in indicator for me in my first pregnancy.

It was for me too the first time (I lost it while having contractions). This time I've "lost" pieces of it repeatedly over the past three weeks. Still pregnant.
A little snot luggy isn't your mucus plug, when I really lost it the first time, it was like 6 inches long and very obvious what it was. You are probably just losing pieces of it OP.

I'm 25 weeks and i believe I just lost mine. My doctor said if I start having bloody discharge or signs of contractions to head to the hospital. I'm going in tomorrow to see if I've dilated... He said whenever a woman loses her MP means labor can happen soon. I'm hoping labor holds off for me or hopefully it wasn't my MP... Please pray that a miracle happens and my baby ends up healthy. Cause 25 weeks is far far far to soon to have my little girl.

I lost mine twice well before labor started. It can regenerate.

I hope you're prepared to go home and back many times if your doctor is advising you to come to the hospital as soon as you lose your MP. Most 1st time moms go too early as is, but this is ridiculous.

During my first pregnancy I never (to my knowledge) remember losing my mucus plug and I delivered 5 days late. However, with baby number 2, I am 28 weeks and lost mine last night. You're doctor is doing the right thing by having yo come back as often to check and see how dilated/efaced you are. It's probably a little frustrating, but I've read on other sites that women can loose their plug anywhere from 2 weeks early to 2 months early. Good Luck and congratulations!

I agree that sounds really odd. As another PP said, you can lose your mucus plug weeks before labor begins, and it can be lost and regenerate multiple times without you ever going into labor. I imagine if you showed up with no contractions and intact water they'd either send you home or induce you (which would be medically unnecessary).

i've read the only reason for your mucus plug to fall out is because your are either dilating or effacing, or both. so when you're mucus plug falls out it def. means labor is 1 day to 3 weeks away. and i haven't read anything about it regenerating and continually falling out.

I started losing my plug a week or two before I went into labor, so no it doesn't mean anything and stop being so giddy about having foreign objects in your vag. I am serious. Protect your baby, stop wanting all these unnecessary vaginal checks.
