If you're on a pretty good team, then he will know who the lesser opponents are and give the bench more play time. Against good teams don't expect to play 50% of the game. If you're playing a cellar dweller, then he may start some of those bench players. This happens from the pros on down. It's just the way it is, but I agree if you pay to play then you should get a certain amount of time on the field normally.
I would agree with this for older age groups, but not developmental groups U8-U13 or so. Every kid should get at least 50% time, at least, at this age and they should be rotating, or else it's unfair to say kids haven't developed because if they haven't developed it's the fault of the coach and the club.
If it's a school team or if there were kid players who get paid to play coaches can do anything they want but when you are paying and the club advertises that they are developing players they should actually be developing them.

If you are being paid to play, it's the clubs choice how much to play your kid.
This! If you are paying a club to develop your child, they should be playing at least half of every game. If not you need to be talking to the Age Group Director or Technical Director. It is not acceptable to let kids ride the bench unless it's a tournament final.

It is really bad for development to only have played one position. You can see this at clubs that do not rotate defenders and keep them in for most of the game.
Yes! I am satisfied with my U12 son's playing time (almost the entire game) but he plays defense 100 percent of the time. He likes defense, but has no idea how to play any other position (he freaked out about having to play midfield in a pickup-ish game). It's frustrating.

yet they happily sign on to clubs where their kid may not play. There are clubs out there that will play every kid on a roster, you just have to find one

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:starting at U13 playing time might be more dependent on who can play which positions. If you only have a few really good defenders, they are going to play most of the game.
In an ideal world, you could replace the starting 11 with players #12-18 with no drop-off in team performance level and everyone could play equally. That's not the case though.
This starts at some point during U13 and by U14 for sure there are differences in playing time.
Yes, I would say U13. In U12 we had two players that played the entire game. In U13 we have 5. We have 16 on the roster. Two of the kids only play about 20 minutes a game unless it's a blowout.
