If what the dad would do counts as "helping," definitely do the preschool. You need backup!

Our situation is similar, but not identical. We both work. SAHM is not viable for us.
We are moving DC from current daycare to a real preschool program in September. At the preschool, DC will at least be exposed to letters, numbers, counting to 10, shapes, phonics, and cultural lessons (halloween, thanksgiving, etc.) while also having lots of play time (inside and outside) and practical lessons (share, wash hands, take your turn).
We plan to sign up early for many weeks of daycamps to help cover next summer. Lots of good summer daycamp options exist starting at age 3 or 4.
