DX is major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety. I got a prescription for Zoloft. I'm going to find a supportive talk therapist on my own as their practice has no spots available.

Anyway, I wanted to say thank you for the encouragement. I hope anyone else in the same boat as me chooses to go ahead and take that step to make an appointment. It wasn't scary or embarrassing once we got started.

OP, congrats and good luck with your continued road to recovery. I wish I were as brave!

Is it a psychologist or psychiatrist ? I actually enjoy going to shrink’s because you can unload your problems on thek and not be judged abd not be called a whiner. The only reason I’m not seeing one now is my insurance sucks abd I get very little leave from work

Congratulations. I know how hard that first step can be. You should be proud!

OP congratulations on taking this first step!

If it helps, you could write down a few things on a piece of paper and just hand it to the psychiatrist.

But you have nothing to worry about. They've seen everything.

In my experience, psychiatrists want to know what you are struggling with so they can properly prescribe meds. They really don’t get into talk therapy or CBT or solving anything during the appointment. They may refer you to someone else for that.

Is your goal to leave with a prescription? Their goal is getting you the right medication.

I think I might need meds, so I was glad to get the psychiatrist. Before I even mentioned what I needed when I made the appointment, I was warned that they only had psychiatrists available right now, and was that okay? So we'll see. I just wanted to get started. If they refer me to someone else for talk therapy or whatever, I'm good with that. It took me 2 months to get in the door so I'm really happy to just get started on anything, even though I'm nervous. I didn't realize psychiatrists didn't do the therapy part, so thanks for the heads up on that.

You’re welcome! It will be good to get a referral from the psychiatrist because that means it will be someone they have a working relationship with and that helps with communication between the two. 👍🏻 You’ll be okay.
