I recognize that some birds are amazing and nice to look at, but I don't like birds in general. There was the overly protective cardinal who thought he saw a competitor in my windows and doors every day, several times per day, so he would charge at them. There were the birds that nested on the ledge outside my newborns room. There's the early song bird who keeps on singing ridiculously earyl, even though no one is responding. They sell a fake owl you can put outside your house that scares away the birds. I tried a smaller, stationary one and it didn’t work but when I put in our bush a bigger one that moves a bit when there is noise — the birds never came back!

My doctor told me about them.

Op, I hear you. I have dealt with birds sitting right outside my windows chirping away at 5 AM. Even with the A/C churning away, air purifier going, and the dehumidifier going, I can still hear one particular bird. Suggest either getting up and tapping the window or making sure that your windows are properly sealed and in good condition. Sounds crazy, but perhaps putting a life-like owl in the tree or on the kids window ledge where the offending bird(s) are. They might think its a predator. Wonder if wind chimes would work scare the bird away?

Is the noise coming from your roof or your chimney? If it's your chimney, make sure it has bird netting to discourage nesting. That's a safety issue since the nesting can block the release of carbon monoxide.

Wait, what? I've never heard that.

We live on a bus route, and used one well into elementary school so my kid wouldn't be awakened at 6am by buses announcing the route and direction at full volume. Honestly, they'd probably still be using one sometimes if we hadn't gotten new windows, which made a huge difference.

White noise. You don't have to buy a white noise machine, a fan or an air purifier work just as well and are multi use.

Take their damned screens away, get them some meaningful exercise and put them to bed at a decent hour.

There are a few techniques to keep birds away from certain trees.

- Cheapest and easiest is to find some old CD's that you no longer want (I sometimes cannibalize CDs from old PC software that I no longer use). Hang a handful of them from branches in the tree so that they are not touching other branches and can swing and spin. Also, you want them close to the edge of the canopy. As the wind hits them, it will spin the disks and the sunlight shining off the CDs will scare many birds away.

- Alternatively, you can get various glittery tree hangs that are slightly more decorative but will do the same thing the CD's do, like:

- If that doesn't work, you can get predator decoys on Amazon or other places. If you get one with moving parts, the combination of the natural predator and the movement will scare many birds away. Examples:

- You can get tree nets. Netting can make it harder for birds to land and discourage them from particular trees. That said, if the tree is large, this can be almost impossible or expensive to cover the whole tree.

- Last there are smells that will keep some birds away. Garlic, cayenne powder or peppermint oil will discourage many birds. You can try making a diluted solution of peppermint oil in water and put in a sprayer to spray in the tree canopy. Especially if you spray closer to the window of the house, you may discourage birds from getting closer to the window.
