The only kids I have ever met that tire of the beach quickly are screen addicted.

In addition to the other good recs you’ve gotten here, I recommend checking out the hiking trails in Ocean View a mile or so from downtown Bethany. Check out the Prickly Pear and Fred Hudson trails and James Farm Ecological Park. The latter has access to a bay beach and kayaking, as does the Assawoman Canal trail, which starts at Shipwrecked, an ice cream/mini golf area right near Juicebox, which is fantastic for fresh juices, smoothies, sandwiches, and other treats. Anyone who thinks you will be bored in Bethany with young kids has a strange take on life. Also, if you are staying in Sea Colony or up for a longer walk, go to the canal area in South Bethany.

OP here - from what I've heard, Ocean City is basically the opposite of what we want, LOL

People think OC is just the boardwalk, which is silly. It's a huge place. The north end (north of the high rises) feels more like Fenwick. It is more of a working class crowd... oh the horror! Bethany is sooo yuppie... everyone in their jogging outfits and little dogs. DCUM likes it because they only have to encounter people like themselves.

Northside park at 127th St in OC is better than any park in Bethany. It has a big playground, fields, and a long pier that juts out into the bay. Dumser's ice cream (really good) is right near there as well as multiple mini golf places. You can stop and pick up some Fisher's popcorn on the way back up to DE. That place always has a line.

Nope, couldn't disagree with this more (unless you like feeling like you're in a huge place as PP says). Plus, there's Fishers in Bethany.

I’m with you PP. Parents have a condo in OC in the 140’s so know that area well. We also know Bethany well since we have a place there.

Once in a while we will go to the beach there in OC but usually almost always we go to Bethany with my parents. More family friendly, laid back, less teenage kids, and the town is just quaint and so kid friendly. DS is 6.

We were in Bethany this past April with kids who are 6 and 2, and we all loved it. There is the beach, multiple nature reserves, boardwalk, great playground, ice cream galore, a bookstore with a rich kids' selection and many other beaches within a 20-30 minute drive. We explored Lewes, Rohoboth and Cape May (the kids loved the ferry and the farm in CM), and made local (to DC) friends on the playground in Bethany.
You will have plenty of things to do!

Stay in OC above 45th street or Fenwick.

Also, if you want a less crowded beach go to Cape Henlopen Park. Its a historical fort, my kids liked exploring it
