I've heard stories of demoted kids playing final games and tournaments. Very sad.

My son’s team just made it to the finals of a tournament. They also will get invitations tonight. Many are not going to make it on the team again, however, are expected to go the finals, possibly regionals, etc. How does a parent explain to a kid that they are part of a team that is good enough to get this far but that they are not asked back. Also, expecting a kid to perform knowing this. It is torture.

DD is a keeper. If that happened to her, I’d be fine with her tossing the ball behind her on the way out just the screw the team

SENSE OF TEAM and their duty defensively and offensively should always outweigh feelings. You being fine with failure should not be an option for a great Keeper.

Agree, the team didn't do anything wrong- why take it out on them? It's hard for the kid, but I would still encourage my kid to play esp if they like the team.

I mean, I don't agree with the practice, but if your parents are in a position to pay $2K for you to play travel soccer, you're in a much less sad postion than a lot of kids in America.

Please. Yes, my child should have no feelings because he has some level of privilege. I should remind him when he feels down that there are kids that are abused or can’t afford soccer and to suck it up. That always helps. Whatever - how about some empathy which in turn allows kids to also feel empathy for others.

Perspective is important, for both adults and kids. It's an inappropriate practice, and normal that a kid would feel down, and I agree that you should complain to your club, but it is not "torture." If the club won't change, your kid is not obligatged to do to the game, and you are not oblgiated to pay them more money. Kids are being removed from their parents and bounced around between foster homes, abused, living in homeless shelters. Get over yourself.

Anonymous wrote:First of all. Why is it that soccer clubs hold tryouts before the season is up to begin with?

Typically they hold them over a 2-3 day period and you would think this can easily be scheduled after the season.

I agree. Wish the leagues would set firm dates or something. As it stands, some clubs start in April.

If it stings, then go back to Swim Team.

Clubs/coaches do not give a sh#t about your kid. They just want to get the next crop of paying customers in the door. Acted accordingly.

Coach etiquette - don't tell a group of 12 year old hormonal maniacs that they will get results in 48 hours if you don't intend on sending them out in that time period. How many tweens are crying thinking they didn't make the team no matter how you try to explain they just need to wait a little longer. OOF.

Finishing out a season once you haven’t made the team for next year is beyond challenging. Going to regionals in that scenario is miserable. It’s like 5 days of torture. Good luck with that.

Maybe get advice from Pulisic’s parents not the people here?
