OP here - there is little chance in 3 weeks I’m walking back in to get this again. I’m 72hrs out and barely functional. And I don’t have a low pain threshold (had four kids). I can barely get out of bed.
Maybe I’ll stretch it out to 6 wks or something if I’m convinced to go back and get #2.
Everyone has said if I reacted this strongly to first shot then I probably had covid. Considering I haven’t felt sick at all for years, I’m having a hard time believing this vaccine is the lesser evil right now. I wanted to get this to do my part, but this seems unrelenting right now
I had covid. I was sick for two weeks. As bad as you feel, actual covid is worse for many people.

Not for everyone. My friends and relatives who had COVID all had worse reactions to first shot and mild or no reaction to second. My doc confirmed that folks who get this pattern likely had COVID (maybe asymptomatic) prior to the vaccine. Feel better and don’t be too worried about shot number two!!

Are you SURE you don't actually have Covid? My friend thought it was vaccine side effects for like 4 days and then finally enough people convinced her it wasn't normal and to go get tested and lo and behold, it was Covid. Just colossal bad luck. She probably picked it up a day or two before her shot.

Yep - felt horrible starting 10 hours after 1st moderna shot. It lasted 3-4 days from onset and then instantly I felt fine. I was dreading feeling equally awful after 2nd shot and it turned out to be much better. It again started about 10
Hours after the shot but was manageable with Advil. Felt off and couldn’t eat but was able to go to work and everything else. The bad feeling only lasted about 30 hours with the second one. For what it’s worth, I did have covid and felt exactly like the feeling after the first shot foe almost 3 weeks.

The one person I know who felt really awful 3+ days after the first dose actually had Covid. It turned out she had probably caught it a day or so before she got the vaccine and was pre-symptomatic at that point.
The other people I know who have had rougher first dose reactions that lasted 24-72 hours had all previously had Covid. Either symptomatic or asymptomatic but had tested positive for antibodies.

Not only did I have a slightly delayed reaction to the first shot (mine was more like 24 hours but still surprised me because I thought I was in the clear after I'd made it through the night with no symptoms), I had a weird delayed soreness in my arm. It was sore right after the shot, and then felt better, and then 8 days after the shot I had muscle soreness and weakness that took weeks to resolve. It was so weird.
But my second shot was more normal (so far). My symptoms started about 10 hours after the shot and hung around for around 2 days before I started feeling better. Now it's been a week and I feel great. And so far no excessive arm soreness. Hopefully I'm in the clear.
I got Moderna.

OP here. Pfizer too. Thanks for sharing. 5 days of feeling like this sounds like a nightmare, you’re brave to go back and get second ! Ok helpful, will try to rest and drink water. Yes disconcerting .... I woke up this morning feeling so much better, and then took a serious dive down to full on flu ish feeling
