Great education, zero social scene. My daughter has three friends who graduated from high school with her who transferred out.

What does prestigious mean exactly? I consider it to be a very selective school that has smart students and a good reputation.

It is fine. It is a very good state school. I have never considered it prestigious, but surely ideas of prestige varies across social circles, demographics, etc.

I thought of it as a prestigious school when I was a high school student living in California. I ultimately didn't apply because I wanted to go to a larger school and ended up at a T10.

I think it was something having to do with the ranking suddenly granting more importance to the number of students on Pell grants, and W&M not having a large enough endowment to be able to compete with some other schools on financial aid.

I think you misunderstand. It is a place for jocks and frat boys. It is the place where Yardley Love was murdered by her hockey playing boyfriend.

That is what I am talking about, not whether you can pass your exams and get into a college of good standing thereafter.

Good question. I believe there’s more diversity at UVA, but it wouldn’t be my first choice either.

William & Mary has been well known and highly respected in the NE/NYC for decades.

It’s a different model than any other T50 public U. It’s amazing for kids who want SLAC type schools to have that instate options. It appeals less to the big Greek and high profile sports kids. WM focuses almost exclusively on UGs and doesn’t offer things like engineering. UVA has to balance grad students.

Yes, as someone who grew up outside of UVA and whose sister applies, it’s prestigious. But Not Ivy prestigious. Vs. uVA? Let’s be honest, it depends on your program.
