Southern values haven’t changed much in a few centuries.

How are they "risking their health"? Vaccines aren't exactly hard to come by anymore.

This. Vaccines are available. No worries xcuse fir an adult to get out and find a job. May not be their first choice, but time to re enter the world.

My cousin is making more money sitting at home (from federal and state benefits) than if she got off the couch and reported to work each day. There's no incentive.

She, and I'm assuming thousands of others, are in the same boat, hence the countless job opportunities and employers scrambling to fill jobs especially as "normal" (and seasonal) jobs are insight.

And she's vax'd so she really has no excuse.

Why do you think that reflects poorly on her, rather than the low wage employer's taking advantage of people? She did the math and made the smart choice. The one time the system shakes out to advantage workers, psychos like you are chomping at the bit to see them relegated back to serfdom.

I'm not the poster, but I think that anyone who earns more on unemployment should either pursue higher education or a trade such as plumbing. Fast food jobs are for teens and college students, not 30+ year old adults.

Do you also complain about the poor service you get at such establishments? Someone has to do those jobs. If everyone who does them goes off and gets a degree, who will serve you your hamberders? Newsflash: teens and college students have expenses too, and they ALSO don't want to work for $7.25/hour. And businesses don't want to hire them.

And yet their positivity rates are the lowest and their economic recovery pace the highest. Go figure!

Wrong audience. Some of us can actually read and understand data. But nice try DeSantis.

Uh. The south has consistently had some of the highest positivity rates and Covid case rates in the nation.

Sure. You keep telling yourself that, Gov Cuomo.

The unemployment payments have been MUCH better than fast food. It's actually been competitive with trades.

They are not “reluctant.” They are lazy.

My brother, who has been collecting unemployment, is not lazy. He's rational. People on DCUM don't seem to get that, for your typical exempt hourly worker, hours can be unpredictable in addition to the pay not being much better than unemployment. There is no promise that you're going to get 40 a week, no matter how willing you are to work 40 (or 50 or 60). And employers have been even more prone to call you off shifts during the pandemic.

You sound so ignorant. As if the only low paying jobs are in McDonalds only. Have you considered the cost of childcare as well?0

Sooner or later, people need to work and produce. There is no such thing as a demand-only economy. I don’t understand why people don’t get this. It will be no good getting a check from the government when a loaf of bread costs $20.

Re: this "news" story. Whatever. It's not a big deal.

Leaders are doing what they can to help. Leaders are doing what they can to meet their local needs.

Let's not get so upset about everything.

The vaccine won’t be effective for 5-15% of the population.
