Doesn't give much time for thought. If reading the above is true, we could potentially ask for an extension, though not sure if that's really the case.

Asked for extension. Denied. Don't want to make exceptions. Likely losing two top players because of such a stance.

When did you hear back? Today? Man, this try-out season is fierce. I wasn't anticipating the 48 hr window after 1st day of tryout.

Sounds like a high level team?
For lower teams they are most flexible because it's just about getting fees.

It is a high level team. One that has won regional tournaments in the top brackets. Still, kids with skills should not have their options limited.

Yes, everyone else should wait a week for your snowflake to make up her mind. Irl, most people have their choices ranked in advance and this isn’t an issue.

I am not going to use that term. But I agree. I hire a number of people, and if they take more than a day to say yes, I know I have made a mistake. As have they.

Well what if try-outs for team #2 have not even occurred yet? Then you have nothing to weigh.

Yes, rosters need to be filled but you are the customer. When it says "48 hours", it's not like it's a law. Take the time to find the right place for your kid, any real coach just wants players to play. We want the players, but most of all we want players playing.

Thanks, coach.

They fill the top team, then 2nd, 3rd, etc. Once you accept they can move onto the next spot or if you decline the everyone moves up a spot. I think they should give everyone a day or 2, but clubs need to roster quickly. You, the player are fighting for a spot, but the clubs are fighting for players.

No it is to force you to make up your mind. There are other players waiting for your spot if you are not interested.

This is no different than a job offer. There are others that are waiting for your spot here too. So do you decide in 24/48 hours or do you typically need more time?

Perhaps it would be a general service to parents for teams to coordinate their offering and acceptance / decline periods. Child is on a top team and is being recruited by multiple other clubs. Wants to consider staying but told spot will be given away if he doesn't commit within 48 hours. Have to believe that the clubs scheduling tryouts later on are confident that they don't need to use desperate tactics.

It's going to vary depending on the level of team, how many kids are trying out, and how good your player is, but you can stretch these things out a week or more. One thing I would do is send the coach an email and tell him your situation and tell him (not ask) that you need more time.
