Paid a fortune for a mediocre neuropsych with them, found the practitioner to be of average intelligence, a poor writer and not particularly engaged or perceptive. Felt like a factory to me. Having had prior neuropsych's for my DC with really thoughtful professionals was really disappointed in the way it was handled.

Wasn't totally thrilled with the neuropsych (but they did diagnose dyslexia), but chose them for neuropsych so we would have an automatic in for a psychatrist who would prescribe for inattentive ADHD.
See Dr. Gage. Like her. Didn't talk about nutrition or other non-medical approaches, but she has listened well & has been good at problem solving on right stimulant and dose.
What I also like about C. is that they are super responsive for scheduling/med management with the support staff (probably part of the reason they are costly -- they have a lot of support staff!)
Have not tried any of their classes or support groups, but those seem good, too.

Our DD has ASD diagnosed via testing at Chesapeake so that surprises me.

We liked them but as others note they are very pricey. For meds they like to start on a small dose and check in multiple times before they go up at all. We had quite a few visits before we were even close on dose, not to mention it wasn’t the right medication. That felt financially unsustainable, not to mention slow.

The thing is you don’t know if your kid might have ASD and they won’t diagnose it. They missed our child’s ASD in our first neuropsych testing. Two years later we went to Stixrud and they found it and dyslexia. We lost two years of potential interventions by going with Chesapeake. I do NOT recommend seeing a practice that cannot diagnose everything that’s going on.

Have had a resoundingly positive experience at the center, and yes, I have discussed supplements with the dr.

Have found no doctor willing to do blood tests for deficiencies.

It depends on the doctor. They all have different processes. If you call them they will send you all that info up front.

We've been patients there for years. A big change for our kid as opposed to our local dev pediatrician. Now SHE was a pill thrower. Chesapeake is very mindful and our psychiatrist at least talked about supplements AND did not start us on heavy meds for ADHD. Yes, they are expensive but worth it. And I like that they have evening hours so that I don't have to yank him out of school. We live in NoVA.

Chesapeake does take ADHD adults.

Yeah, I hear you but CAAT is a PITA to schedule and although nice, there is a bit of latent attitude of "we're busy and in demand and therefore you will jump when we say to do so." Also, if ADHD is the "bigger" problem, you might want to focus more on that. We were at CAAT for very mild ASD symptoms, but when they discovered the ADHD after DS went to ES, the CAAT practice had nothing to offer, except "look for an ADHD specialist who has CBT in their bag of tricks." No internal referral. But they very much want us to keep returning for more te$ting, etc. YMMV, but I would just encourage PP to look at their kid's entire range of behaviors and those that seem to be the most limiting and then make a decision. Chesapeake lists ASD as one of the conditions they treat, which makes sense because it is a relatively common comorbid condition.
