Lights give off light in different parts of the visible light spectrum. It's why some folks liked their old incandescent bulbs over the early CFLs, for instance. The lower the "temperature" of the light, the warmer it appears. Stores often have brilliant, high temperature lights to make things visually "pop."

Be choosy about the style. A ceiling full of 6" recessed lights will look really dated.
