Finally switched to the Episcopal church when my kids were old enough to start CCD and I just couldn’t do that.

I am SO thrilled we made the change. I have never felt so wonderfully part of a community of faith as I do now.

As for the crucifix... I asked my Episcopalian priest why they crossed in Episcopalian churches don’t have Jesus on them like the Catholic crucifixes do.
Because Jesus isn’t on the cross any more”

The Catholic Church keep him up there as a reminder of his sacrifice for humanity. I believe it is step one in instilling a sense of fear and guilt, all the better to do what they say and avoid going to Hell.

Lutheran. The kind that is cool with LGBT. Very food-oriented fellowship. Feels like church b/c the liturgy is close to Catholic. Try Georgetown Lutheran if you are in DC.

+1 I tried to rekindle the magic with my kids, but my then 4 year old son was having none of it. As he's gotten older, he's explained that Christ on the cross is a horrifying sight and it terrorized him at a tender age. He also called bs on many parts of the Bible. I taught my kids about religions of the world and in the US and I taught them that Catholicism is part of our cultural heritage. They know a lot about various religions, but have no interest in attending church. They are good people.

Yoga/Eastern Philosophy/Buddhism - I practice Kirtan chanting

I’m open to inspiration from all traditions informally - lots of zoom/YouTube options right now. I don’t need to be a part of a formal community.

I like Thomas Moore’s book “Religion of One’s Own”

Good luck
