Mary actually has a clue for how to plan for Covid and post Covid. And she cares about all kids.
Miranda only cares about those who have been screaming for full time in person. That's it. That was made very clear by her campaign manager TT on AEM who was incredibly hostile to anyone who said that doesn't work for my family. The APS world is much wider than APE. Miranda, if elected, will advocate for those in APE and that's it. That is scary to me.

2. It is a non issue for whomever takes office in January. It may feel like THE issue this month, but I’m interested in not just the next six weeks but the next six years.
Haven’t watched the debate but am now intrigued and will catch the recording whenever it comes out. I agree with a post on another thread that this election is absolutely a referendum on the current SB and APS performance during RTS. Elementary kids will not be vaccinated for some time. We will be dealing with COVID issues for years. Also I think your views on RTS during this past year show your judgement and values. Mary doesn’t even support mores days now for kids. She is perfectly fine with us being dead last in region to return kids to school. Also she talks in buzz words so I don’t feel like I really know what she means on anything.
Viewing it as a referendum on the current SB and APS performance is just...dumb. Sorry, but the one person we are electing is not going to change what they've done or not done or really have them quaking in their boots.

I think anyone who doesn't think we will be dealing with COVID next year is out of their mind or incredibly naieve. There will need to be policies on masking, quarantines, sports, lunch, etc. These will very much be issues next year, even in January. People tried to avoid RTS last year too because obviously it wouldnt be an issue for this school year. That lack of forsight is how we ended up with no new instruction last spring. Why should we waste resources on planning DL when we will be able to make it all up this school year - look how that turned out! Also, APS has a very warped view of what equity means. I like Miranda's answers about equity. Mary sounds like she was on board with APS decisions for no new instruction last year and weak answers on math changes being proposed. I worry that members of the school board will be afraid to denounce bad policy if the proponents attach the word equity to it.
Nobody is denying that COVID and its effects will remain next school year and for many years after that. But Miranda's focus is still on the RTS right now and she doesn't seem to have plans or ideas for anything beyond getting kids into seats right now. Mary is looking at both the now but, more important for a SB member who will be taking office 4 months AFTER kids will be in seats in the fall, ahead to picking up the pieces from this painful period. I loved her learning loss response from last night's debate.

You must have been living under a rock if you think this is the only issue a school board member needs to deal with, or the only challenge facing APS.
Miranda's supporters are very privileged families who were not engaged in APS before this. They were inconvenienced this year so they woke up. But they have no idea what else is going on.

Mary wiped the floor with Miranda. Especially loved Mary’s opening and her response on “learning loss”. It was painful listening to Miranda try to fit RTS this year into every answer.
