They know that. They just believe students can be successful even if they don’t have high test scores (for whatever reason and there are many). The schools want to have the ability to admit these students that they find interesting for whatever reason without having their lower test scores drag down the school’s average.

I think if you look at schools that were test optional prior to Covid, you will see that they do well. Test optional has not dragged these schools down.

This should be obvious to the school admission officials. Those who do not submit test scores are those who do not have good test scores. Regardless one submits test scores or not, the applicant has most likely taken the test because many other schools still require test scores, especially some of those decent schools.

Which is why those kids have a boost in admissions unrelated to SAT scores. For the rest of the kids, the score fills out the academic picture.

It’s a stupid statement unless you know the test scores of the kids that didn’t Submit test scores. It’s only a valance statistical analysis if you compare like groups of people.
