IN WHAT WORLD are summer nannies easy to find?! Are you in DC? Have you heard of this global pandemic called covid 19?

This times a million.

She's staying longer because of you, she needs to literally move into another place just for a few months just for you, and you're annoyed that she won't just live with some crazy random person who is also fine with living with some random person?

Would YOU live with some random crazy person for a few months to do your boss a favor for a job that you don't even want to keep?

You sound totally nuts.

All of this, and OP is annoyed, and potentially reducing the parting gift she gives her nanny, because of the increased expenses that OP asked nanny to incur.

Good lord, OP, you're terrible.

I agree. I hope she quits earlier.

You sound like you have some serious resentment issues toward this nanny.

But no, you don’t owe her severance. A parting bonus does sound right just because you caused her to move.

But regardless, I think you need to separate your issues with her from her relationship to your children. You want her end-of-the-summer parting to go as smoothly as possible with good feelings for your kids’ sakes.

^The nanny does NOT want to stay

Find an incredible new nanny and let the mediocre one go with a weeks pay as a thank you for keeping your children alive.

I’m a nanny, just FYI.

On one hand, I agree. On the other, this nanny has put off her moving plans by months for OP, and she’s reasonably not willing to pay more nor get a random roommate for just a few months.

You’re not getting it. The nanny does want to stay. She wants to move when her lease ends. She’d be relieved if OP let her out of this favor. I think OP is delaying the inevitable and would be better off getting a new nanny at the beginning of summer. Then the kids are used to her before school starts. This plan is just making the nanny’s AND the OP’s life more difficult.

Zero. And cut ties at the start of summer and let kids adjust to new nanny

This. She is moving and quitting. No severance pay. Bonus is your choice.

Summer nannies are easy to find. Just hire someone new and let her leave.

I thought your nanny was quitting (like suddenly) and not graciously staying months after she planned to make your life better.

Yes, you give her extra weeks.
