I think this is more about creating a pipeline/expectation at the younger age at SYC that when they get to U13, if they want to play ECNL, they try out for the alliance team, rather than go to BRYC or VDA.

Not involved in any way - but the team's record is W4L2D1 - scarcely a world beating result. Surely there is the possibility that some of the current roster get cut to make room for better players?
Reviewing the record, they lost two games by one goal each to the top team in the nation, which also has several players who were invited to the recent YNT training. The one draw against Loudoun in a game that I heard MYS dominated but didn't execute on multiple chances. There is room for new players but this is a team that will qualify for ECNL national playoffs. If you can play, then there is probably room but this is not Loudoun, Arlington, Bethesda or BRYC.
Richmond, while good, is probably not the top team in the nation - YSR has them eighth, a whole goal behind the top 3 which is a significant margin. And all teams have games where they don't execute on multiple chances.
McLean is a good team, ranked third in the state. There are doubtless many good players on the roster. But to suggest that the entire roster is so strong that none of them can be replaced is silly.
There are relatively better teams which could not make that claim - and it is quite possible they are better because [b]they do not[b] make that claim and instead welcome new players on to the roster, wherever they come from, each season.

The reality is that the SYC Boys is stronger than McLean boys so a player in the boys team is likely to have more of a shot at making the ECNL team. McLean Girls is the dominate player between the two clubs. I think the reality is that if there are very strong players on the SYC Girls 04 or 05 team, they will have the ability to make the McLean team.
With mls next for all ages I don’t think you will see top SYC boys wanting to play ecnl at all. Maybe a few McLean kids will want to try out for he mls teams at older ages.
Then why are they at all the ID sessions???
The lack of communication is inexcusable, OP. You have every right to be furious about that. But I see this alliance as working out pretty equally for both sides: McLean has the clearly stronger girls and SYC has the clearly stronger boys. McLean boys are going to lose their spots as much as SYC girls.

Yep if your kid did not make the cut at u13 it is over.
Hi Karen, Just because your DD made ECNL at U13, she is not entitled to a position on the team until she graduates. The best ECNL clubs will rotate talented players in every year.

What’s stopping them? Notifying us 11pm for a tryout the day prior.
