If it were in Northern VA yes, in DC I'm not so sure. Since murder and other violent crime is much rarer in NOVA than in DC, when it does occur it is newsworthy.

It sounded to me like the shooter possibly was selling some type of clothing via social media, some other kids made fun of it, the feud escalated, they went to his house, and things escalated very quickly as they are apt to do with impulsive teens.

If he were in DC he would be released under the Youth Rehabilitation Act all the way up to age 24. So some people in this area are shocked when an 18 year old is charged as an adult.

Definitely a case of suburban kids thinking they’re hard over some sneaker/t-shirt business. I wonder if the gun was the parents’ gun or something that the shooter got for himself.

I live in that neighborhood and have heard through the rumor mill that the shooter wasn’t in school any longer (unclear if he dropped out or stayed “virtual” but just wasn’t attending), and that it stemmed from a social media beef about a clothes/shoes business.

In Virginia, the murder of 2 people in same offense is a capital crime. But now there is no death penalty.
