2014 Toyota Highlander and 2013 Honda Fit

I replaced my old mid-2000s cars with these two because safety had improved immensely (mainly because of stability control and a few other improvements).

When the next big safety improvement comes along, I will replace them witih newer, safer models. Self-driving cars will be here soon, but are not quite ready.

Bought my car used in 2013 — it is a 2009.
Still driving it. 136,000 miles.
Plan to buy a new (used) car next year but keep this one as adding another driver to the family and we are currently a 1-car household.

10 years if they don't start costing me a bunch of money

Scion XA bought new for 13K cash 17yrs ago. 165K HHI. We have a second, newer car.

DD, HHI 240K, drives a 24yr old Toyota Camry inherited from her grandparents. Their household also has a second, newer car.

Both old cars have less than 150K miles.

I hope at least 15 years each. But we spaced out new car purchases about 5+ years apart, so I definitely hope we don't need to replace them at the same time.

These are our family cars. By the time we need to replace them, I'm pretty sure our kids will be teenagers, and we'll get something else. We'll see!

I'm patient/handy/cheap and have a good mechanic so we keep them until they are literally undrivable.
Our current cars (Toyota, Honda) were bought with over 100k miles and they are going well at +200k.

I joke with my wife that I view cars as part of the food chain. Person A buys new cars. Persons B and C buy used cars when they are 3 years or 8 years old. And then there's me: the last stop before the crusher. The car's life cycle requires all of us!

We generally replace our cars every 3-6 years, depending on the car and if we really like it. More recently it's been closer to the long end with both my wife and I holding on to our cars for 6 years before replacing them.

I don't drive cars until they die because it's usually a poor financial choice. I enjoy working on my own cars and just did a brake flush on the Honda this past weekend.

2010 Toyota Camry. Bought off-lease in 2011.

HHI $160 (was more like $90k when we bought it).

Only 75k miles, so I'm seriously considering putting in some aftermarket goodies (backup cam, Apple Play) to make it more enjoyable to keep for another 10 years.

HHI 180k. Dh’s Jetta is 8 years old, my minivan is 6 years old. We’ll probably get dh a new car when he has to go back in to the office. It doesn’t really make sense to do it now when he’s working from home. I plan to keep mine another few years at least.

bought first lexus new in 2005. Still using it (doesn't have much mileage on it) and will continue until repairs are too much for the car's worth
second car, also lexus, bought used (2 year old) about a year ago. Same thing - will continue until repair expenses are too much.

we bought the second car because our Subaru (a 2000 Subaru bought new) had many expenses that were getting too expensive. So we got rid of it and got the new car.
