That is great to hear! I was the one who posted the 3 points, and candidly did so because I was completely taken by surprise about how competitive things were at tryouts (purely in the sense of number of kids trying out vs number who could make it). We were not prepared for it - who knew at this age! But my DS loves soccer and he happened to have done the various programs even before travel was on any of our radars and so we felt more comfortable in our chances.... figured I would pass that along. But I am so happy to hear stories of kids who didn’t go through that route who still had the chance to shine and make the team! I think that is proof the system of tryouts worked!

I am the OP. My kid did not of these, just a few half day summer capstone summer camps last year and rec soccer this year. Just want to give others hope.
Also to give people hope. We haven’t done anything but rec soccer and our July 2014 son made it. We decided to wait another year before we turned our life over to sports (he is our oldest).

I think it’s designed to be in between travel and rec. In the past the younger kids could play because there were more spots than kid’s trying out 60 spots and only 50 kids. I heard the last time they did the full tryout there were over 120 kids in the age group for just 80 spots. There is a jr academy that practices 2 times a week and will occasionally scrimmage the travel kids. I believe it’s called advanced academy. The other option you could do if you want your kid to play on a bigger field is sign them up for 3rd grade rec soccer in the fall.

The kids we know that made it (boys) all ended up on the field closest to the parking lot. As far as 2014 kids the 4 or 5 my son knows didn’t make it but I would think at least a few did. It seemed like all the 2014s started on the back field making it harder to make it.

So, the field with the best players are the ones who will most likely make the team. The kids they take off the best field and are just sitting on the sidelines, already made it. The kids you see moving fields are the ones they want to see more of. Don't look at just your kid's field. Look at all the others. Be objective. I may not know a lot about some sports, but I can pretty well tell who is good at it and who isn't.
