I am mighty offended on behalf of my dissing my SIL name choices! Baileys and Dylans and she is in another state altogether!
The rest of us peasants named our kids mundie names such as Catherines, Daniels, and French variations of Stephans, and well, you get the picture! Like I knew we would end up in the DMV where names are proof of upper or lower class belongings.

I live inside the beltway with good schools, nearby parks, stores, restaurants and I drive about 200 miles a month and I have so much extra time.

I went out to Ashburn last week for an errand and was surprised at how all the neighborhoods are built off these giant roads. You have to drive down a six lane parkway of some sort to get just about anywhere. It felt like it was built for the automobile. The houses all look the same. Not much tree canopy from what I saw.

If what you want is a new(ish) large house and you work outside the beltway then it’s probably a fine area to live. I do believe you should bloom where you’re planted. But for me personally, sacrificing somewhat on house size (my family “only” lives in 2,400 sq ft) in order to be in a walkable neighborhood with sidewalks, close to the city, good schools, lots of neighborhood parks and beautiful trees, etc. is worth it. If I had to live that far away from the city, I’d just leave the area. It’s not like Ashburn is super cheap and yet it can basically be replicated in nearly any suburban area in much lower COL areas. Why pay a premium to be in the DC region live in generic exurbia?

Dulles toll road prices are fixed. It’s $3.35 from Dulles Gateway to 66. The problem is the I-66 tolls to DC are dynamic. Lately it been $3-5 from 66 to DC, but pre-COVID it was routinely $25-40 one way going from Dulles toll exit on 66 in to DC during the week from around 7:45 am until tolls ended. You had to jump off and go through side streets to avoid them. Not fun for you or the people living in those neighborhoods.

I think they’re $5-$10 one way? Not sure though.
