Actually, people like you have been screaming that schools isn't responsible for children's social lives. That's a parental responsibility. So frankly, MCPSS has not right to weigh in on parental planned events replacing the socialization that students were deprived of for more than a year.

My own kid does not care, but for those who do, as long as any gathering is consistent with public health guidance, I think MCPSS is overstepping.

I feel bad for the high schoolers but understand the rationale.


+1 My sixth grader missed out on a lot of end of elementary school activities. I am glad they have found a way to make high school graduations work this year.

But yes, it stinks for high schoolers, but 5th grade?? Give me a break! Your 5th grader won't have ' a graduation' but look at the bright side: you had an entire year to keep him in his room and bake cookies together!

MCPS could care less about this class of seniors and have done nothing for them all year, why would we expect them to start now? We have 2 HS kids, 10th and 12th, both are vaccinated. This should be a non-issue for both graduation and prom, but since MCPS is such a sh*tshow, they do nothing.

30% of MoCo has been fully vaccinated. It isn’t spring 2020 anymore.

As long as people are careful, it’s entirely possible to have safe graduation events.
