My 13 year old daughter looked at me with so much disdain, I felt uncomfortable. I was in her room doing something she asked me to do, but too early for her liking. I miss the days when I was hero.

For me, I think there are (or will be) two different things going on.

First is transitioning from strongly preferring me to preferring dad-- as I always expected she would-- he's a lot more fun AND honestly more of a nurturer. Not that I don't have my good qualities nor that she doesn't love me, and not to have low self-esteem, but I think most kids would prefer my husband.

That started slowly around 5 and I do think she prefers him now at 8, though not by a massive margin.

The second is the usual puberty stuff I'm expecting soonish... although maybe it will be lessened (or strengthened) by the fact that she's an only child and the three of us are pretty tight knit.

I always thought my parents were pretty great/appreciated them AND butted heads with them a lot and was a big know-it-all. My kid shows signs of being the same on all counts.

My daughter is 18 and sometimes she's still amazed - that I show up to meet her with a snack or that I know things about life/the world, etc.

My 7 yo still thinks I’m great, wants to do lots of things with me, gives me compliments, etc.
My 11 yo loves to point out my faults, roll his eyes at me, etc. The shift probably occurred around age 9. However, he still wants to play games & spend time with me. I’ll take that while it lasts.

Started cracking at nine ; completely smashed by ten. By eleven, I was worse than simply un magical - I was a mean witch intent on ruining every part of her life.
