While snell is probably the best, they are more expensive than anyone. So a 16k system like you are looking at with snell would be about 12k with Costco installed. Plus you get 10 years parts and labor on everything, 2 year return or replace policy. Sure you get a 2000 Costco gift card and not cash but that is still usable.

If you get any reputable company they are all going to be in that 12 range without the Costco back up/customer service.

A friend given a 15k estimate by FH Fur (representing Costco - through Costco). Then got another estimate for the exact same unit half price. Others I know had the same experience. Shop around, otherwise overpaying by thousands, thinking it is Costco price - which it is not.

I shop around and get 7-8 quotes. Most of the time the one I install is 30-40% of the highest quote, lol.

HW prices have gone up about 20% in a year due to shortages of everything to make ac and furnace units.
Duct metal was $8 for 4x8 sheet. Now it is $39 a sheet.

I got quotes from snell, crop metcalff, fh furr and AJs for 2 ton install ac.
Lowest to highest

AJs 4650
Fh furr 5200
Crop metcalff 6100
Snell 6500

With a new furnace the price went up for each by x2.5.

They all try to sell homogeneous systems at the same time so you get the most efficient system.
So a 10 year old furnace will work with a new ac but the blower may not be the best; but that may not matter for many.

Seriously that much? Quotes I had two years ago for 2.5 ton A/C and matching furnace, all mid range carrier, were all around $9K-$10K: Snell, Jon Nugent and Brennan's

Were the estimates based on the same model unit?

AJs - carrier
Fh furr Lennox
Crop metcalff carrier
Snell Lennox

At similar tier/capacity

We ended up going with John migrant and sons who did both the ac and furnace (carrier), new thermostat and duct work for 8000.
Crazy on the price range. So Costco for us was almost 4K more AFTER the Costco rebates. We only have 2 year labor warranty, parts 10.

Davis and Davis botched our installation bit time. We were without a working furnace for two weeks due to their mistakes.

GAC is good but they are EXPENSIVE

Anyone used Germantown heating and Air conditioning? Confusing GAC with them as both in Germantown.

GAC is actually in Gaithersburg. Germantown HVAC has pretty good reviews per Checkbook

Don't go with FH Furr or any of the big ones that spend a ton on advertising. They have huge overhead that they have to cover and the "discount" that they're offering is still overpriced. I looked into the Costco program and found it wanting. I did quite a bit of research a few years ago when we had to buy several units. Cool Breeze was who we went with. They're small and local and quite reliable. What I learned is that it's not so much the system as the quality of the installer that matters. With these big companies, it can be a total crapshoot. One thing to keep in mind. If you're going to replace a unit, it's hard to do this immediately in the middle of the summer for cooling and winter for heating. It might take 2-3 weeks because these companies can be slammed. Schedule it and try to do in the shoulder seasons.

Agree. There is a huge difference in price for the exact same unit. Also if one quote is for 2 ton Lennox brand or Bryant etc. try to get the different quotes for same specs/brand and compare.
